You, Trans Fat, and the Police

I wrote awhile ago, tongue-in-cheek, on the sudden rise of the new health fear. Trans fat. As I wrote in that post there is always some "food like" product that America decides is the new enemy of health. From calories in the 70s through carbs in the 00s.

However, as our society has become more and more government controlled and as our freedoms are being taken away daily, we read that New York City has actually banned restaurants from using trans fat! Talk about treating the symptom, why don't they just ban fast food if they're that worried about our health.

Trans fat may be bad for you, no doubt it is, but is it really the job of an entire city to ban its use? People aren't dying in the streets from this you know, no matter what fear mongering statistics you may hear. I heard one that trans fat lead to 50,000 deaths a year! Give me a break! That's just about the stupidest statistic I have ever head, ever! Trans fat hasn't killed anybody. Maybe McDonald's has, but not trans fat. If you ate a normal diet and had some trans fat once in awhile when eating out I'm pretty sure you'd survive. Are there 50,000 people drinking straight trans fat? "Mmmmmm, I'll take one Oreo Trans Fat shake, please".

I laugh a bit when America gets worked up over a new health hazard because it's predictable, but I get worked up myself when I hear of government controlling and caging people's freedoms and that includes the American's right to partake of unhealthy food if they want!

Just crazy. Remind me to tell you another crazy story about government control tomorrow.
